WRINKLES – PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of people in their mid-20’s starting their ‘botox journey’. Previously, this was a treatment reserved to those who classified themselves as ‘middle aged’, and if you had the treatment done before this, you were simply starting too early. So what’s the truth? When is it too early, and when is it too late?
DYNAMIC LINES VS STATIC LINES
Botulinum toxin (the actual drug commonly known as ‘botox’) works by relaxing muscles. When we frown, or smile, our facial muscles contract and lines appear. As we repeatedly perform these expressions, the lines become deeper. When lines appear only when moving the muscles, they are termed ‘dynamic lines’, and botulinum toxin works wonders at eradicating these lines! Not only will these lines vanish temporarily, we will also be preventing the lines deepening.
However, if no treatment is done, these lines continue to deepen and eventually become ‘static lines’. These are lines that are present at rest, so when we’re not even moving the muscles. Once the lines become static, they become much harder to treat, and it is unlikely that the lines will be completely eradicated with one single treatment.
SO, WHEN SHOULD I START?
The best time to start the journey is before the lines become static. This will allow you to achieve a smooth result, and prevent the lines deepening. As they say, prevention is better than cure!
AT WHAT AGE DO THE LINES BECOME STATIC?
There is no set age for this process! There are many, many factors that will determine how deep your lines will become and how quickly that will happen. For example, the use of sun beds; smoking; squinting due to poor eyesight or not wearing sunglasses when it’s bright can cause the lines to deepen faster!
The best way to determine when to start is to seek advice from a professional! Through a consultation, we can assess the condition of your skin and advise on the best course of treatment for you!
